Reading Resource |

|
| The Reading Resource team
consists of Ms. Settles, Ms. Smith, and Ms. Wade. These three individuals work with small groups
of students in order to assist them in increasing their
reading proficiency. They use a wide variety of
resources to ensure that the individual needs of all
students are met.
Oscar Smith Middle works hard to give students the tools
they need to become successful readers. Through the
Accelerated Reader program, students are given goals that
they need to achieve, and their progress is closely
monitored by the media staff, teachers and
administration. M.I.R.P. (Monitored Independent
Reading Practice) is a program that was just implemented
this year. This program gives students 20 minutes a
day in certain classes in which to read Accelerated Reader
books and have their progress monitored. The SOAR to
Success program is another reading program that OSM adopted
several years ago. In this program, small groups of
students work steadily through a series of books in order to
increase their reading comprehension. This is
accomplished by reviewing vocabulary, context clues, and
relevancy throughout this program. |
