Art Club |
The purpose of the art club is to encourage student interest
in the visual arts. Students have a chance to participate in
the annual Arts and Science festival. The Arts and Science
festival includes displays of student art, art demos,
musical, and step team performances along with a science
fair. Community members and parents are invited to attend. |

Bible Club |
The Bible Club seeks to provide
students with an opportunity to express their Christian
faith and promote Christian values through song, scripture
stories about Biblical characters, games, and crafts.
Meetings are currently held on Tuesdays, twice a month. |
| Chess
Club |
The chess club teaches students strategies
to help them become successful chess players as they
compete with students from other middle schools in the
area. |

D.I.V.A.S. Ladies |

this exciting new club for 8th grade girls! |
| Drama
Club |
The Oscar Smith Middle School Drama Club,
more commonly known a the Oscar Smith Middle School
Players, strives to expose students to a variety of
theatrical terminology and skills that they utilize during
spring productions. The students also travel to
local theaters to view musicals, comedies, dramas, and
dinner theater productions. For membership the
applicant must maintain a 2.0 grade average and have a
willingness to learn and experience new things. The Drama
Club welcomes any sixth, seventh, and eighth graders who
fits the description. |

Gents |
The GENTS Club
improves the personal, social, and academic potential of
adolescent boys through teambuilding activities and
media resources. They are exposed to jobs and careers
of interest, highlighting the education requirements and
potential earnings for each. |

Girl Power |
Would you like for
your daughter to:
-
recognize and avoid harmful and risky behaviors?
-
learn strategies for stress management?
-
learn and develop habits that promote school success?
-
develop positive interpersonal relationships?
These are some of the many goals of GIRL POWER, an
organization for sixth-grade girls at Oscar Smith
Middle School. Students will meet with teacher
mentors and Mrs. Sheilah Gresham of the Chesapeake
Community Services Board on two Tuesdays out of the
month.

Pink Ladies |
Pink Ladies is a club for seventh grade girls that
emphasizes girls demonstrating dignity and pride in
themselves. The mission of the Pink Ladies Club is to
provide fun activities that will help young girls
develop a positive self image. They will learn to
respect themselves, their peers, as well as exhibit
respect for the community. |
| SCA |
The SCA (Student Council Association) is a
student organization dedicated to the development of
leadership skills, diplomacy, and community service.
Representatives are elected by their homeroom peers.
Officers are elected by the entire student body during a
spring campaign. Selected students are
encouraged to attend local and state leadership
workshops. All students are urged to participate in
school and community projects. |
| Sewing
Club |
The sewing club at Oscar Smith
is run by Ms. Crudup and is open to 7th and 8th grade
students that are not enrolled in Teen Living for the
2009-2010 school year. The students that are involved will
learn the basics of sewing by hand and how to operate a
sewing machine to construct a pillow. |

Technology Club |
The Technology Club is for any student who attends Oscar
Smith Middle, but especially for students who do not
take technology education. This club generally
meets once a week from 3:15 to 4:00. Students
should pay attention to morning announcements for
definite meeting times. Students will make
projects and other activities, and there is no fee for
this club. |

Tiger Book Club |
The student book club meets after
school the third Thursday of each month in the media
center. Students select a type of book to read for the
coming month and then gather to share their thoughts and
recommendations on their choices. See Mrs. Mayfield if you
are interested in joining. More information is on the Club
page. |
| Tomorrow's
Thunder |
Tomorrow's Thunder is a highly successful
character development program for students in grades 5
through 12. The main idea behind the Tomorrow's
Thunder program is to use well-organized athletic
competition as rewards and incentives for students.
In order to participate in the program, students are
required to strive for higher academic, behavioral, and
personal standards. |
| Yearbook
Club |
To be in the yearbook club, students must
formally apply and have teacher recommendations as well as
parental permission. The members will take pictures,
write captions, attend school events, and help plan the
Oscar Smith Middle School yearbook. |
